(Pierre, SD) — The top carbon capture pipeline legislation is headed to the House for what’s likely to be a testy hearing. House Bill 201, sponsored by Senate Republican leader Casey Crabtree, advanced through the Senate Wednesday by a vote of 23 to 11. But, that was one vote short of the two-thirds required to pass the bill with an emergency clause attached that would have prevented any referral attempt. The bill lays out a new set of safety standards and setback regulations for CO2 pipelines, and gives money to farmers and counties, according to Crabtree. This legislation has been dubbed as a ‘compromise’ bill, as Crabtree says that means not everyone is going to be happy.
