(WASHINGTON D.C.)– The latest Cattle on Feed report from USDA showed on-feed numbers in line with pre-report estimates while placements were higher than expected.
Total cattle on feed as of March 1st, 2024 in the U.S. was up 1% from March 2023 at 11.8 million head. Placements in February totaled 1.89 million head, which was 10% above 2023 levels and above the high end of pre-report estimates. It was also the highest placements number in feedlots since 1996.
Total marketings of fed cattle were up 3% in February at 1.79 million head while other disappearance was down 3% at 56,000 head.
