Inhumane Incident At NDSU Meat Lab Results In Staff Suspension

(Fargo, ND) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has suspended inspection program staff at North Dakota State University’s slaughter operations at the university’s Meat Lab. It stems from an incident involving cattle on February 28th, when an NDSU Meat Lab employee allegedly stunned a cow. The animal dropped, with its eyes rolling back and no blinking was observed. However, the animal was later seen blinking and making noises, suggesting it had regained consciousness. The Federal Meat Inspection Act requires labs to use humane methods when slaughtering cattle.
