(Pierre, SD) — Senate Bill 201, dubbed as the “Landowner Bill of Rights,” is continuing to draw criticism from landowners across South Dakota. Governor Noem says it will provide new protections for landowners and allow for economic growth to move forward through a transparent process when it comes to the future of carbon pipelines in the state. She does plan to sign the bill, however, multiple landowners have stated it only supports corporate interests. Joy Hohn, a landowner in Minnehaha County, shared concerns with others about how it doesn’t create restrictions on the use of eminent domain. The landowners who advocated against the bill in Pierre believe lawmakers sold out to corporate interests.
