Big Jump in Corn and Soybean Plantings This Week

(WASHINGTON D.C.)– Both corn and soybean planting nationwide moved well ahead of the five year average after a busy week of planting progress, particularly in the western Corn Belt last week.

Corn nationwide is now 27% complete as of Sunday, five points ahead of the five year average. Soybeans nationwide are now 18% planted as of Sunday, ten points ahead of the five year average for this time of year. We also see 34% of the spring wheat crop planted nationwide as of Sunday, 24 points ahead of last year and 15 points ahead of the five year average for this time of year.

Winter wheat condition ratings fell slightly to 49% good to excellent while 16% of the crop was rated poor to very poor. 30% of winter wheat was headed as of Sunday.
