(FARGO, ND) — Corn and soybean planting in the U.S. is inching closer to 100% completion with both crops showing good condition ratings early in the growing season.
According to the latest crop progress report from USDA, corn planting nationwide now stands at 95% complete as of Sunday which is four points ahead of last week. That number is equal to the five year average but slightly behind last year. Soybean planting is now 87% complete as of Sunday. That is eight points behind last year but slightly ahead of the five year average of 84%.
Both crops are looking good early in the season with ratings over 70% good to excellent this week. Corn was 85% emerged with 74% of the crop in good to excellent condition. Soybeans were 70% emerged with the initial rating of the year at 72% good to excellent as of Sunday, June 9th.
Spring wheat planting is almost complete at 98% with both Montana and North Dakota at 97% complete. 87% of spring wheat had emerged with 72% of the crop in good to excellent condition with North Dakota’s crop at 79% good to excellent as of Sunday.
